The core of the symposium are the technical sessions. In addition to the presentation of latest scientific findings, industry-related research will also be highlighted. Many different impulses enable the participants to view beyond the horizon and gain new insights.

• Plenary lectures
  Leading scientists present their knowledge and their perspective on current topics.
   
• Technical Sessions
  The sessions are organized in groups of three or four presentations in parallel sessions. They are dedicated to a specific topic and are chaired by a well-known scientist.
   
• Industry meets science session
  We would like to introduce a new point in the traditional program of the symposia. On Wednesday, invited representatives of the relevant industrial sectors discuss the current scientific research needs from an innovative industrial perspective with the conference participants.
   
• ISSA Sessions
  The International Section of the ISSA (International Social Security Association) on Prevention in the Chemical Industry is holding two lecture sessions parallel to ISHPMIE on Tuesday afternoon. Mutual visits to the sessions and scientific exchange are welcome.
   
• Work-in-Progress Poster Session
  In the specific dedicated work-in-progress poster session, preliminary results and specific problems of the ongoing research projects will be discussed.
   
• Demonstration of large scale experiments 
  Large-scale experiments for testing flameproof enclosures, flame arresters and dust explosion protection systems are demonstrated on our outdoor test site.
   
• Lab tour
  On Thursday afternoon, instead of a technical session, we will present a selection of the PTB laboratories. In small groups you will visit a selection of the explosion protection labs and a high-tech metrology lab.
